Promotion and training

Ensure that opportunities for promotion and training are communicated in a way that they are known to all staff who could possibly have an interest in them

Remember that all internal references, formal and informal, should be fair and non-discriminatory. As with external recruitment, the emphasis should be on the skills or competencies needed to perform the job.

Be aware that timing of training events or the training methods used could disadvantage someone because of their religion or belief. Avoid, for example, activities using physical contact which is inappropriate for some beliefs.

Consider special dietary requirements. It is good practice to invite delegates to advise of any special needs in advance of a training course or conference.
